Abhishek Williams: Finding a Voice

Abhishek Williams is a 3-year-old child enrolled with the CDC vertical. Abhishek’s father, T Kesavulu, is the sole breadwinner of the family, earning an income of Rs. 16,000/- per month, which is not sufficient to sustain their expenses. Abhishek struggles with every day speech. He is unable to pronounce words correctly or form coherent sentences. He was taken to Dr. S. R. Chandrashekar Institute of Speech and Hearing for an assessment where he was diagnosed with a speech delay. The doctor recommended that he undergo speech therapy twice a week to effectively manage his condition. Each session costs Rs. 300/- and for those with a BPL card, the cost is reduced to Rs.176/-. Although Abhishek’s family has a BPL card, his name has not yet been added to the list of beneficiaries. Once his name has been enrolled in the card, which his father promised to get done by the following month, Abhishek will be able to attend therapy twice a week.

Another child, Tejeswin also suffers from the same problem. His mother takes him for therapy once a week, and has offered to guide and support Abhishek’s mother through the process.
