Family Background: Suzanna belongs to a migrant family from Tamil Nadu. She is deaf and mute. Her parents took her to a government hospital to receive treatment, and was advised to use an ear machine which costs Rs. 50,000/-
Association with VCT: Unable to afford the cost of the treatment, Suzana’s parents requested help from VCT, and enrolled Suzanna in the CNP program for nutritional support. The child was malnourished with low Hb levels (8.6). She received nutritious meals and supplements. The team also took her to Dr. Chandrashekar Institute of Speech and Hearing, and Baptist Hospital where she was diagnosed with a growth in her brain. The neurologist recommended cochlear implant surgery, which was conducted on 25th June. The surgery was successful and the parents are happy for Suzanna’s improved health. The family is grateful to VCT for their support.
